JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary / Objective
  • To design, oversee and coordinate all aspects of a variety of engineering projects, including financial administration, budgeting, and planning. Performs variety of professional and technical tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility, including directing and managing small group on projects assigned to him/her.
Essential Functions
  • Prepares drawings, specifications, cost estimates, project schedules and other work for accuracy, presentation and conformance with established construction/engineering practices and applicable codes and standards.
  • Provides technical and professional guidance to staff, work crews, consultants and others related to code interpretation, material standards, design and engineering drawings, specifications, plan interpretations, installation procedures and construction methods.
  • Prepare detailed written reports of performed field observations identifying any deviation and non-conformance with the design drawings/specifications and applicable codes and standards.
  • Performs a variety of project activities including, but not limited to, preparation and review of construction contracts; conduct pre-construction conferences; approval of time schedules; review and approve pay requests; evaluate and approve change orders; solve construction problems; perform final inspection and project close out duties.
  • Travel to work sites of assigned engineering projects; note work progress and possible problem areas; report findings to supervisory staff as necessary; resolve project problems by reviewing and commenting on proposed modifications of design, construction change orders and related methods.
  • Attend and serve as staff/representative for pre-design, pre-bid and pre-construction meetings related to assigned projects.
  • Strictly adheres to the office standards policies and project schedules. Informs, in a timely manner, department head regarding any conflicts/issues that relate to his/her work.
  • Learning is a required assignment for all employees.
Experience
  • 2-4 years of post-undergraduate degree work experience, which must have involved construction, design, inspection or estimating.
Education Level & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or documented equivalent of education and professional experience in related engineering field.
  • Possession of a registration as an Engineer Intern (EIT).
  • Possession of a valid inspector license (building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing).
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
Education Area
  • Preferred mechanical, electrical, civil, or structural.
Skills
  • Procedures, methods and techniques of budget preparation and control.
  • Principles and practices of engineering project management.
  • Principles and practices of construction inspection.
  • Basic principles and practices of architecture and building systems design.
  • Review and approval of project plans and specifications.
  • Evaluation, review and approval of change orders.
  • Preparation and administration of assigned projects and corresponding budget. Manage small group to achieve goals within budget. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
  • Allocation of limited resources in cost-effective manner.
